Besolved, That the President of the Board be, and is hereby, directed to instruct the firm of Wilson, Moore & Mcllvaine, attorneys, to enter appearanceon behalf of the Board and its officers and defend in the suit in chancery,. Chas. E. Churchill vs. The Globe Savings Bank, et al.,to which the members of the Board and some of its officers are made parties defendant. A c o m m u n i c a t i o n from D r s . Steele a n d Q u i n e with reference toa p p o i n t m e n t s for t h e e n s u i n g year i n t h e School of M e d i c i n e w a s referred to t h e C o m m i t t e e on t h e School of M e d i c i n e with power to< act. T h e P r e s i d e n t a n n o u n c e d t h e s t a n d i n g committee of t h e School of Medicine as follows: M r . A r m s t r o n g , C h a i r m a n ; M r s . Flower, M r . M c L e a n , P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r , a n d Professor S h a t t u c k . T h e C o m m i t t e e was a u t h o r i z e d to provide for issuing t h e u s u a l regular a n n o u n c e m e n t of t h e School of Medicine.

MUSIC DEPARMENT.

P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r stated t h a t a n a p p o i n t m e n t should b e made assoon as practicable of a woman t o give i n s t r u c t i o n i n vocal music. I n t h i s connection Mr. S m i t h i n t r o d u c e d t h e following resolution: Besolved, That it is the sense of this Board that the Department of Music should be reorganized; that it should be put upon the basis of a distinct college in the University; that a,dean should be employed with sufficient assistants; that no greater tuition be charged to students in music than is charged to students in other departments, and that degrees be granted t o graduates in this college. T h i s resolution was referred t o P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r a n d t h e C o m m i t tee on I n s t r u c t i o n , w h o were directed to r e p o r t at t h e next m e e t i n g of t h e Board. A u t h o r i t y was also given t o employ a n i n s t r u c t o r i n vocal m u s i c T h e B o a r d t h e n adjourned to meet at t h e G r e a t N o r t h e r n Hotel,, in Chicago, at 11 o'clock, F r i d a y .

W h e n t h e Board met at the Great Northern Hotel, pursuant to adj o u r n m e n t , t h e same m e m b e r s were p r e s e n t as on t h e d a y preceding. T h e C o m m i t t e e on B u i l d i n g s a n d G r o u n d s m a d e t h e following r e port :

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your Committee on Buildings and Grounds begs leave to report that by its direction the architects of the Library Building have obtained proposals for the gas and electric fixtures for the building based upon the specifications of the architects. The two proposals received are as follows: From W. C. Vosburgh Manufacturing Company, Chicago, all complete for $2,116.90.
