The committee on instruction made t h e following report, which was adopted:

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your committee on instruction recommends t h a t in pursuance of t h e adjustment of salaries between t h e University and t h e Experiment Station, t h e University hereafter pay W. L. Pillsbury $1,200 a year, and John Mayer, gardener in charge of t h e greenhouse, $20 a month. Respectfully submitted,

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Complying with t h e vote of t h e board a t its last meeting t o t h e effect t h a t t h e annual appointments of instructors and assistants should be made a t t h e March meeting of t h e board, your committee proposes t h e following persons for re-appointment: Messrs. G. W. Parker, G. P. Clinton, T. A. Clark, C. I). McLane, C. BClark, W. E. Sandford, H. S Piatt, H. E. Parker, J. D. Phillips, C. A . Gunn, A. H. White, W. Esty, B. V. Swenson, L. W. Peabody, A. R. Curtiss, F . Smith, A. H. Daniels, Miss E d i t h Shattuck, Miss Alice M, Barber, Miss Anita M. Kellogg; also Messrs. E. G. Howe and N. A. Weston, of t h e preparatory school. In most cases, t h e work for the next college year will be t h e same for these persons as i t has been t h e past year, b u t your committee recommends t h a t specific assignment to work and also t h e fixing of salaries be deferred till t h e next meeting of t h e board. The committee also recommends t h a t George W. McCluer be appointed instructor in horticulture, and receive for services thus rendered $180 a year, his term of service and salary t o begin April 1, 1894. Respectfully submitted,

CLASSIFICATION AND SALARIES OF FACULTY. URBANA, I I I . , March 14, 1894.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your committee on instruction reports t h e following schedule for t h e classification and salaries of members of t h e faculty: 1. T h e titles to be professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor and assistant. 2. T h a t t h e deans of t h e colleges shall be elected annually by t h e board of trustees. 3. T h a t t h e salaries be respectively: Deans, $2,000, with an annual increase of $100 to $2,500; professors, $1,800, with an annual increase of $100 t o $2,250; associate professors, $1,600, with an annual increase of $50 to $2,000; assistant professors, $1,200, with an annual increase to $1,800; instructors, $800, with an annual increase of $50 to $1,200; assistants, $600, with an annual increase of $50 to $800; fellows. *400 a year.
