The board met at t h e Doane House pursuant to adjournment. The committee on instruction made t h e following report:

URBANA, I I I . , March 13, 1893.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your committee on instruction makes the following recommendations: 1. T h a t Evarts JBoutell Greene, P H . D . , be appointed assistant professor of history; term of service to commence September 1, 1894, and salary not to exceed $1,800 a year. 2. T h a t a model school be established in connection with t h e department of pedagogics; t h a t two rooms be assigned to this school and fitted up for its use; t h a t t h e University employ a teacher a t a salary not to exceed $600 a year; t h a t a proposition be made to t h e board of education of t h e city of Urbana to furnish pupils for this model school, to t h e number of forty, and a second teacher, who shall be a person approved as satisfactory by t h e professor of pedagogics, and shall be paid by t h e board of education of the city of Urbana, not less than $600 a year. I n case this proposition is not accepted by t h e Urbana school board, t h a t a second teacher shall not be employed without further action by this board. 3. That no person under sixteen years of age shall hereafter be admitted to t h e University. 4. That hereafter a two years' course be offered in the preparatory school. 5. T h a t graduates of t h e state normal universities be admitted on their diploma of graduation to t h e courses in pedagogics and allied subjects and be granted a certificate on completion of a two years' course. 6. The committee recommends t h a t $1,800 be appropriated for t h e establishment by the zoological department of the University, of a biological station at Havana, and other purposes, in accordance with recomdations made by Professor Forbes. 7. T h a t Professor Snyder be given a leave of absence for one year, from September 1, 1894, on half pay; t h a t Assistant Professors Shea, Kinley, and Bruner, be made full professors in their several departments, and t h a t Mr. Pence be made assistant professor of civil engineering. The report of t h e committee was approved and t h e appropriations were made as therein recommended. The board adjourned to meet at 9 o'clock a. m. in the University parlor.

WEDNESDAY MORNING SESSION.

When the board met pursuant to adjournment t h e same members were present as t h e day before, except Mr. McKay. An appropriation of $20.00 was made from current funds to reimburse the treasurer, Mr. C. W. Spalding, for t h e accrued interest paid on t h e Gallatin county bond purchased for t h e endowment fund, November 30, 1893. An appropriation of $17.64 was made to pay for advertising in The Illini. The finance committee presented t h e following reports, which were severally adopted. All appropriations therein recommended were made.
