PROCEEDINGS OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES. T h e executive committee made t h e following report.

U R B A N A, OCTOBER 5, 1893.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your executive committee reports t h a t a t a meeting held August 16, 1893, $400 was appropriated for the purchase of materials for t h e geological department. Respectfully submitted,

To defray expenses of packing and returning the exhibits from Chicago, an appropriation was made of $500. The matter of a change of uniform by t h e band, was referred to t h e faculty committee on military. Forty dollars was appropriated for t h e purchase of instruments for t h e band. Fifty dollars was appropriated for putting in shelves in t h e library. The request of t h e Athletic Association for assistance, was referred to t h e finance committee. Mr. Hall's request for an appropriation, was referred to t h e finance committee. I t was voted to grant, on request of t h e Chicago Club, free tuition to t h e holders .of Chicago Club scholarships. The matter of advertising in t h e Illini, was referred to t h e committee on finance. The board then adjourned, to meet in t h e University Parlor, a t 8 o'clock a. m., Oct. 6tti.

SESSION OF FRIDAY.

The board met pursuant to adjournment. The committee on buildings and grounds made t h e following report: To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—Your committee on buildings and grounds recommends t h a t a central plant be established for furnishing heat and power for t h e several buildings and departments of t h e University, and t h a t the plant be located a t t h e discretion of t h e committee. T h e details of this plan are to be worked out and reported at a subsequent meeting of the board, for its approval. Respectfully submitted,

The report was laid over till t h e next regular meeting. The committee also made further report as follows. To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—Your committee on buildings and grounds recommends the payment to Mr. George W. Bullard, of $2,000, in part payment for services as architect of Engineering Hall. Respectfully submitted,
