The pressed brick may be estimated at $16.00 per thousand, f. o. b. cars at Champaign or Urbana, and molded brick a t $15.00 per thousand less than t h e list. Proposals will be filed with W. L. Pillsbury, secretary of t h e board of trustees, Urbana, 111., and will be opened in t h e presence of bidders. The committee reserves t h e right to reject any and all proposals.

Urbana, 111., August 22, 1893. As the full committee could not meet at the hour for opening bids, the chairman of t h e committee, through t h e secretary, Mr. Pillsbury, received t h e proposals, fifteen in number, and adjourned t h e meeting to 3 o'clock t h a t afternoon. At t h a t hour, with only himself of t h e committee present, but in t h e presence of the president of the board and with t h e assistance of t h e secretary of the board, t h e chairman opened t h e proposals, in t h e presence of t h e bidders. One of t h e proposals was informal, not having a check enclosed as per instructions, and was laid aside. The fourteen proposals presented were as follows:

The chairman announced to t h e bidders present t h a t t h e proposals were above t h e amount t h a t could be expended for t h e building; t h a t t h e committee would consider them, report them to the board with their recommendations, and t h a t t h e action of t h e board in t h e matter would be reported to t h e competitors. Also t h a t their checks would be returned in due time. Your committee recommends t h a t .all proposals be rejected, and t h a t further proposals be sought; and, if necessary, t h a t the building be reduced in cost to make it come within t h e amount of money we have to expend on it.
