UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. SESSION THURSDAY MORNING.

The board met pursuant to adjournment, t h e same members being present as on Wednesday, except Mr. Kaab. The finance committee made the following reports, which were severally adopted:

GENTLEMEN: Your finance committee recommends t h e following appropriations as contemplated by t h e action of t h e board a t its meeting Dec. 13, 1892. From U. The committee on buildings and grounds made t h e following report:

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your committee on buildings and grounds reports t h a t it m e t June 7th, immediately after t h e adjournment of t h e board, and decided upon a competition for designs for t h e new engineering hall—the competition to be limited to t h e graduates of t h e architectural department of t h e University. With t h e advice of t h e professors in t h e engineering courses t h e number and sizes of t h e rooms necessary for t h e building were fixed upon. Your committee also determined to offer four prizes for t h e four best designs, t h e aggregate amount to be $1,100, $500 of which was to be applied upon t h e architect's fees for services, if t h e architect employed should be t h e one entitled to t h e first prize. Two and one-half per cent, of t h e actual cost of t h e building was offered as t h e price of t h e service of t h e architect. I t was t h e desire of t h e faculty of t h e college of engineering t h a t there be erected one or two one-story buildings, isolated from t h e main building, for purposes of laboratory work in magnetic electricity and in other lines.
