The committee on instruction reported, recommending t h a t some person be made principal of t h e preparatory department, and t h e recommendation was approved. The board then adjourned to meet a t 8 o'clock a. m., Thursday.

SESSION OF THURSDAY MORNING.

The board met in t h e University Parlor a t 9 o'clock a. m. The finance committee made the following reports, which were severally adopted:

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your finance committee has examined t h e report of t h e treasurer, J. W. Bunn, for t h e quarter ending May 31, 1893, showing balance and receipts amounting to $40,726.18; expenditures, amounting to $29,766.25; and a balance on hand May 31, 1893, $10,959.93, and has found the report correct. I t has also examined vouchers submitted by the business agent for t h e •quarter ending Feb. 28, 1893, No. 301 to 675, inclusive. The committee has also examined vouchers No. 130 to 209, inclusive, submitted by the board of direction of t h e Experiment Station, and has found all these vouchers correct and properly receipted. GENTLEMEN: Your committee having had before it t h e petition from t h e University military band, recommends t h a t $100 be paid said band on t h e following conditions: 1. Should said band go to World's Fair, it will be under t h e control of the Illinois board of commissioners as to when and where i t shall render service. 2. Said $100 will be paid to t h e band upon bill rendered by t h e leader of the band, together with a certificate from t h e secretary of t h e board of Illinois commissioners, t h a t service has been satisfactorily rendered.
