On motion of Mr. McKay, Professor Moss was appointed professor of the Greek language and literature, a t a salary of $1,800, the appointment t o be for the rest of t h e college y e a r ending Aug. 3 1 , L891. Mr. Shawhan moved t h a t in the resolution reported by t h e committee on g r a n t i n g degrees t o students who had g r a d u a t e d with certificates, t h e blank be filled by inserting the word " t e n , " and the motion was adopted. He then moved t h a t the resolution be adopted. Mr. Morgan moved t o amend by striking o u t all after t h e word "found" in the last sentence and inserting in the place thereof the words "in t h e opinion of the F a c u l t y t o have merited this distinction from the University." The amendment prevailed, and t h e original resolution was adopted as amended. I t reads as follows: Besolved, That in the annual recommendations for Bachelors' and Masters' degrees to be conferred at commencement, the Faculty be and hereby are authorized to include in a special list, not to exceed ten in number in any year, the names of such certificated alumni of not less than ten years* standing as shall be found in the opinion of the Faculty to have merited this distinction from the University. On motion of Mr. McLean, t h e President and Secretary of t h e B o a r d were authorized t o give from time t o time the Treasurer of t h e University orders under the corporate seal of t h e University, directing the Auditor of Public Accounts t o draw his w a r r a n t upon the S t a t e Treasurer for such sums as he h a s received, or m a y hereafter receive, from the U. S. t r e a s u r y for t h i s University under the provisions of the act of congress approved August 3D, 1890. On motion of Mr. McLean, it was Jiesolved, That the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is hereby authorized to receive, and receipt for all moneys, and to endorse all orders, drafts and checks due and payable to the said Board of Trustees, or to the said University of Illinois, and especially all drafts drawn by the Treasurer of the United States, payable to said Board of Trustees or to said University of Illinois on account of the Agricultural Experiment Station of the said University. The following resolution, introduced by Mr. Morgan, adopted on motion of Mr. McLean: was

WHEREAS, It is anticipated that the legislature at its present session will, in addition to the usual appropriations for the support of the University of Illinois, appropriate a special fund of eighty thousand dollars for the purpose of erecting and equipping a building for natural history, and WHEREAS, The legislature should receive the strongest assurances, from the Trustees that such a very considerable sum of money will be expended with great care and economy. Therefore, be it Besolved, That, if such special fund is appropriated, the adoption of plans for the proposed buildings and the letting of contracts for their construction shall be done by the committee of the whole of the Board of Trustees and not otherwise.
