The Committee on Buildings and Grounds asked t h a t $250 be paid Professor Kicker on his c o n t r a c t as architect of the N a t u r a l H i s t o r y Hall, and the a m o u n t was ordered paid upon m o t i o n of Mr. G r a h a m . On motion of Mr. Cobb, $200 from s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for buildings and grounds was a p p r o p r i a t e d for cages and lockers for engineering instruments. F r o m the s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for a p p a r a t u s a n d material $185 was assigned t o the architectural d e p a r t m e n t for materials and labor on cabinet; and from t h e U. S. fund $59 for purchase of specimens of s a n i t a r y construction, for same d e p a r t m e n t . On montion of Mr. Cobb, the employment of an a s s i s t a n t in the carpenter shop was authorized, the person employed t o give a t least one-half his time t o the work and t o be paid $30 a month. On motion of Mr. Cobb, there was appropriated from the U. S. fund $200, and from the s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for a p p a r a t u s a n d material $300, t o pay for a p p a r a t u s , etc., imported for d e p a r t m e n t of physics, and $800 from the U. S. fund for appar a t u s and material for the physical l a b o r a t o r y . On motion of Mr. Graham, $50 was appropriated from the D. S. fund for the purchase of an anemometer, a water gauge, a n d for p h o t o g r a p h s and m a p s of mines, for the d e p a r t m e n t of mining engineering. On motion of Mr. Cobb, $200 was a p p r o p r i a t e d from current funds for settees in chemical lecture room. On motion of Mr. Shawhan, $500 was a p p r o p r i a t e d from current funds and $500 from s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for a p p a r a t u s and material for app a r a t u s , supplies, etc., imported for chemical l a b o r a t o r y . F r o m current funds $500 was assigned for the immediate purchase of supplies for the chemical l a b o r a t o r y . F r o m s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for cabinets $200 was appropriated for the collection of geological specimens. F r o m current funds $100 was appropriated for commencement expenses. F r o m the s t a t e appropriation for buildings and grounds $300 was a p p r o p r i a t e d for cleaning the buildings; $150 for the care of t h e grounds; $300 for general repairs. The m a t t e r of repairs of the heating a p p a r a t u s of University Hall and the Chemical L a b o r a t o r y was referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, with power t o act. Bills of Gamble & Stafford for $7 for p h o t o g r a p h s and of t h e Sheldon Brick Co. for $15 lor brick, were, on a p p r o v a l by t h e Committee on Buildings and Grounds, and, on motion of Mr. Cobb, ordered paid. An expenditure of $100 from s t a t e appropriation for buildings and grounds was authorized t o be made on the closets in t h e basement of University Hall.
