UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS.

Professor Crawford reports from the library, as follows:

U N I V E R S I T Y OF ILLINOIS, J u n e 2, 1892.

Professor T. J. Burn Z, Acting Begent, SIR: I have to make the following recommendations for t h e library: 1. T h a t there be made available from the state appropriation t h e sum of $200 for binding and repairs. 2. T h a t Mr. Bennett, the assistant librarian, be employed during t h e months of July and August of t h e present year for special work in t h e library, presumably a t the present rate of compensation. 3. T h a t $50 be appropriated to pay for assistance needed during t h e month of June for the purpose of invoicing the library. 4. T h a t $150 be appropriated for new cases needed in the library. Very respectfully,

J. D. CRAWFORD, Librarian.

Professor Snyder has handed me this report, as Dean of t h e College of Literature:

U N I V E R S I T Y OF ILLINOIS, J u n e 4, 1892.

Dr. T. J. Burrill, D E A R SIR: I desire to lay before you and the Board of Trustees t h e needs of t h e College of Literature, and shall do so very briefly, since every point has been discussed before. 1. The appointment of a professor of English literature. 2. The appointment of a professor of philosophy and pedagogy. 3. T h e appointment of a professor of political science. 4. T h e appointment of two assistants (at about $750 each), one for English literature and rhetoric, t h e other for modern languages. 5. An appropriation of $500 for lectures during the year 1892-'93. T h e college needs a lift and ought to get it. 6. Appropriations have been generously made for three professors, for apparatus of instruction, maps, etc., in their rooms. I ask t h a t this needed favor be extended to the following:

Professor Crawford, maps, etc.. Professor Paradis, Professor Snyder, $100 00 100 00 100 00

Our recitation rooms are very bare, and these appropriations would help us a great deal. I am conscious of asking for nothing but what is badly needed to give this college an equal chance with t h e others to make a step forward. Very respectfully,

E. SNYDER.

I have received the following report from Professor Ricker, Dean of t h e College of Engineering:

U N I V E R S I T Y OF ILLINOIS, May 31, 1892.

To the Begent and the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: I n behalf of the College of Engineering, I beg leave to present t h e following report and requests: 1. Non-Besident Lecturers. Your munificent appropriation of $500 for securing a series of lectures from eminent engineers and architects hat been b u t partially expended, it having been found impossible to obtaia some of t h e lecturers desired, owing to their professional engagements. A list of the lecturers and of their topics appears in t h e catalogue.
