UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS.

I t was decided t o ask Dr. Holmes t o address the B o a r d later in the evening. The Committee on Instruction made the following r e p o r t : To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your Committee on Instruction, at a meeting held this morning at 9 o'clock, voted to invite Professor Scribner, of Ames, la., to visit the University, and that a sub-committee, consisting of Professor Burrill and Mr. Shawhan, should be authorized, if it thought best so to do, to recommend to the Executive Committee of the Board his employment as Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the University at a salary of $2,000 per annum. The Committee recommends that if Professor Scribner be not employed, Professor Burrill shall correspond with Professor Coon, of Atlanta, Ga., with a view to employing him for the place at a salary of $2,500 per annum. The report was approved on motion of Mr. G r a h a m . The Committee also reported t h a t it would refer t o the B o a r d the selection of a m a n for the Professorship of Psychology ^ since it was unable t o agree upon a nomination. Three nominations were then made, b u t no election being found possible, the m a t t e r was referred back t o the committee on motion of Mr. Graham with instructions t o r e p o r t a nomin a t i o n the next day, if it was found practicable so t o do. After listening t o Dr. Holmes, the Board adjourned t o meet in the University P a r l o r a t 9 o'clock the next morning.

SESSION O F WEDNESDAY.

The Board met on Wednesday morning, p u r s u a n t t o adjournment, the same members being present as on Tuesday, except Mr. R a a b . The Regent's report was then t a k e n up. On motion of Mr. McKay, the vouchers of the Experiment S t a t i o n were referred t o the Finance Committee. Also on motion of Mr. McKay, appropriations of S t a t i o n funds were made according t o the estimates presented, a n d a u t h o r i t y was given as asked t o c o n t r a c t for chemical a n d botanical supplies. Mr. Cobb, for the F a r m Committee, stated t h a t he h a d examined the farm report and had no recommendations t o make. The m a k i n g a n exhibit in connection with other land g r a n t colleges, as proposed by Professor Morrow, was approved on m o t i o n of Mr. Funk. The subject of University Extension was discussed for some time, and then postponed during Professor Burrill's absence.
