Collection of samples of inorganic chemicals and products as used in instruction. Collection of inorganic chemicals prepared by students in course of laboratory work. Collection of samples of organic chemicals, colors, medicinal principles, etc. Collection of organic preparations made by students in course in organic chemistry. Shelves for collections: Space 5 feet high, above table, and 45 feet long. Two desks, each 4ixl5. Tables for general apparatus. Phamphlets describing facilities and arrangements, and explaining their application to and their use in the methods of instruction followed. Space required for course in chemistry, 750 square feet. Funds, $1,450. Total for college of "Natural Science, 3,350 square feet and $3,050.

The college proposes to make an exhibit of about 100 volumes of examination papers, essays, orations, and theses; also of charts, of note books, etc.. all to show the method of instruction and course of study; and, to some extent, the text books and other apparatus of instruction.

This outline has been read to the state commissioners, from whom it received hearty approval, so far as they felt themselves at the time authorized to act. Information has since been received t h a t something like the money and space called for might be expected, though actual assignments have not yet been made. Notification from the chairman of the committee on educational exhibits, Mr. E. E. Chester, has been received t h a t expenditures, not for the present aggregating over $1,000, may be made now. This work cannot have too early or too earnest attention. Shall the chiefs of the several departments be authorized to move in the matter? Pro'essor Rolfe has been employed by the State Board of Commissioners to prepare for the World's Fair a topographical relief map of Illinois, and,
