To the Faculty. We, the young ladies of the University of Illinois, respectfully solicit t h e use of a room for a gymnasium and an instructor in calisthenics. [Signed by forty-seven young ladies, students of the University.]

On motion of Mr. McKay, t h e petition was referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with instructions t o consult with t h e F a c u l t y in relation t o t h e m a t t e r and report a t t h e next meeting. The further appropriation of Experiment S t a t i o n funds for the current quarter, as asked by the B o a r d of Direction of t h e S t a t i o n , and i-hown in exhibit D accompanying its report, was m a d e on motion of Mr. Haskell. On m o t i o n of Mr. McLean, a n a p p r o p r i a t i o n of S t a t i o n funds was m a d e for t h e quarter ending J u n e 30, 1889, according t o exhibit C of the report from t h e Station. On motion of Mr. Bennett, a u t h o r i t y was given the Board of Direction t o repeat or continue experiments already authorized, a s it should deem best, and t o undertake t h e additional experiments detailed in its report. The Board of Direction was, on motion of Mr. Bennett, authorized t o act in its discretion with regard t o t h e American Agriculturist's Prize Crop Competition. The request of t h e B o a r d of Directiofi for lands t o be used in its operations was granted on motion of Mr. McLean. The Board of Direction was also authorized t o contract for chemical a p p a r a t u s and supplies for next year t o t h e a m o u n t of two hundred and fifty dollars. The Trustees then t o o k a recess of half a n hour, so t h a t they m i g h t a t t e n d t h e chapel services. After t h e recess, on motion of Mr. Bennett, Professor Burrill was appointed horticulturist and b o t a n i s t of the Experiment S t a t i o n for one year from April 1, 1889, and Professor Morrow, agriculturist for t h e same t e r m ; and it was ordered t h a t each should receive a salary of fifty dollars a m o n t h for services so rendered, and t h a t , while in receipt of such compensation, his p a y as a University professor should be a t t h e r a t e of seventeen hundred dollars per annum. Appointments of Station a s s i s t a n t s for one year from April 1, 1889, were made as follows: On motion of Mr. Bennett, T h o m a s J .
