The vouchers presented by the Business Agent, with the Experiment S t a t i o n vouchers, were referred t o t h e Finance Committee. Consideration of the Regent's report wras now resumed, and, on motion of Mr. Cobb, t h e request of t h e Faculty with regard t o t h e detail of Lieut. Hoppin, as military instructor in t h e University, was approved, and the m a t t e r was referred t o t h e President and the Acting Regent for action. I t was also voted t h a t the Board learned with pleasure of Capt. W. C. Hazelton's purpose t o d o n a t e a medal for a n n u a l competition by the military department, and would gratefully accept the gift, t o be awarded under rules mutually acceptable t o t h e donor and the B o a r d ; and the Acting Regent and Lieut. Hoppin were instructed t o act with Capt. Hazelton in formulating such rules, and t o report them t o t h e Board a t its next meeting. An a p p r o p r i a t i o n of twenty dollars from current funds was made for t h e construction of t a r g e t s in the drill hall. The Acting Regent was instructed t o make suitable acknowledgment of t h e donation of a Merriam pack received from Col. H e n r y C. Merriam, 7 t h Infantry, U. S. A. The request of the Faculty, t h a t certain of t h e rules for t h e government of students of t h e University be amended, was t a k e n u p ; and, on motion of Mr. Haskell, p a r a g r a p h s four, five, six, and seven in t h a t p a r t of the rules relating t o societies and classes were amended t o read as follows: "The junior class will give a public exhibition under direction of the Faculty at such times as the Faculty may direct; the seniors may give class day exercises during the commencement week." "The times for all public entertainments or exhibitions must be fixed, with consent of the Faculty, at least two weeks beforehand; and all programs for the same must be submitted to the Regent and receive his approval."
