horse Behavior and training

Monsanto Room, ACES Library on Friday at 1 pm The lecture “Horse Behavior and Training” will present the unique ways that horses see their world, how they perceive human handlers, and the best ways to gain a horse’s trust. It will also show how horses communicate using their body language and how to recognize these signals. These basic concepts will then be applied to specific techniques for handling legs in resistant horses and trailer loading.

roaming the rumen

Stock Pavilion on Saturday at 11 am and 1 pm “Roaming through the Rumen” features the important role a complex stomach (rumen) plays for dairy, beef, and sheep. Come out and evaluate rumen structure with “Fred” the steer rumen, learn about rumen volatile fatty acid production, and understand rumen disorders that veterinarians will need to treat. A fistulated dairy cow will be present to explore the actual inside of a dairy cow’s rumen for a “hands-in” experience.

An Overview of Animal handling

Monsanto Room, ACES Library on Friday at 11 am “Overview of Animal Handling” presents the basics to any great animal-handler relationship. This class gives a taste of an Animal Sciences class taught every semester teaching the basics to working with farm animals. The main focuses will be on beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine, and chicken. Come learn a few key insights into livestock handling!
