Metabolic Programming in Cats: Curbing Obesity Stock Pavilion Investigate this research which examines how cats fed high amounts of carbohydrates may adapt like humans and rodents to better digest and store them, increasing the risk of obesity in adulthood. If true, high protein diets may reduce obesity and related diseases in cats. An ACES James Scholar project presented by Cara Williams (Oak Park, IL). Companion Animal Biology and Humane Education Stock Pavilion The Companion Animal Biology and Humane Education program provides training in the basic sciences of companion animals, as well as the human-animal interactions that so strongly affect our lives and society. Illini Equestrians Stock Pavilion An interest in horses is pretty much the only prerequisite of the Illini Equestrians. This is a competitive and social club. From competition, to live demos, to trips, these students do it all! Featured in the exhibit is a mare and her foal. Determining the Ideal Amino Acid Profile for Dairy Calves in Accelerated Growth Milk Replacers Stock Pavilion Accelerated calf growth programs are one way to look to increase efficiency and productivity in raising dairy calves. However to minimize cost and nitrogen excretion amino acid balance must be optimized. This project tested four treatments with different amino acid profiles, and will test the efficiency in growth and stature in 40 calves (20 bull calves and 20 heifer calves). Through this project we hope to better understand the optimal level of amino acids in growing dairy calves. Come see a growing calf at this exciting display. An ACES James Scholar project presented by Kristin Morgan (Bloomington, IL). Rodeo Club Stock Pavilion Experience the U of I Rodeo Club where visitors can practice basic roping techniques, learn about different types of equipment and events, and see real rodeo livestock.
