The symposium is being held as part of the dedicational exercises for a new research facility at the University- -The Burnsides Research Laboratory. Work at the laboratory will be concentrated mainly on the study of lipids under the direction of F. A. Kummerow, Professor of Food Chemistry, Department of Food Technology in the College of Agriculture. The building was erected through funds provided by Miss Ethel Burnsides, the National Institutes of Health, and state bond issue funds allocated to the University. Those attending the symposium will have ample opportunity to examine the new building. The laboratory is a unique, two-story reinforced concrete and brick building. The basement contains four small-animal rooms grouped around a central wash-up room and a room for diet formulation. The basement also contains a centrifuge room adjacent to a ventilated cold room and freezer, and two rooms equipped with walk-in hoods and their own ventilation system for work with radioactive compounds. Small service areas for tissue culture work, gas chromatography, and instrument repair will be available. The first and second floors are devoted entirely to research areas, grouped around a central instrument room on the first floor and around a library study room on the second floor. A penthouse area is available as a reading and seminar room.
