JOHN WATERBl UY CLINTON John Waterbury Clinton was born at Andes, New York, November 21, 1836, and died at Polo, Illinois, February IX, 1018. Ho was elected to the Hall October 3i 192^—Kleetion Q He was educated in Andes » and Roxbury academics in New York and after completing his studies he taught school for a time in that vicinity. I Ic came west in 1857 ,&nd was engaged to teach school near Polo, He taught in the neighborhood of Polo for seven years and then bought and began publishing the Polo Press, later called Oglt County Ptf$st the 7Vi-Coiiiify Prtss of today, He published this paper until loot when he sold the property and retired. He held a number of public offices in Polo and devoted much of his time to the welfare of his section of the state. He was widely known as an historian and when he retired in toot he devoted himself to collection of historical data. He was president of the Illinois Press Association in 1884 and at that time forecast the development of professional schools of journalism.
