I recommend that these funds be appropriated for the purposes indicated above subject to adjustment within the total. SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (8) T h e Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine, for architectural work in connection with alterations and equipment 10 000 4. College of Commerce for equipment 5 394 5. Exhibition of dynamometer test car at Chicago Railroad Fair 2 during 1949 .••;•• 3°° 6. Plans and specifications for supplying water to Vivarium Building for scientific purposes I 530 Total $120 074 I concur. ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES FOR DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY (9) In a separate recommendation an appropriation is requested for $10,000 for architectural studies of alterations and equipment installation in the Department of Biochemistry, Chicago. The Physical Plant Department recommends that this work be done by Holabird and Root and Burgee under the standing contract with them for studies of minor improvements in the Chicago Professional Colleges. The charge for that service would be in accordance with the provisions of that contract (Minutes, September 23, 1048, page 89). I concur and recommend approval. On motion of Mr. Hickman, this recommendation was approved. AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR TENNIS COURTS CONSTRUCTION (10) As a part of the Water Station improvement program, a water reservoir was constructed at the southwest corner of Mathews and Springfield Avenues, thereby eliminating two tennis courts used by the University High School. T o replace these, the Director of the Physical Plant Department proposes constructing two tennis courts in the northeast corner of Illinois Field. Representatives of the Athletic Association, the School of Physical Education, and the Building P r o gram Committee have approved this site.
