CARL S A N D B U R G LIBRARY (14) T h e University of Illinois Foundation has purchased for the University the personal library of Carl Sandburg including his collection of books and manuscripts for the sum of $30,000, to be paid for in annual installments of $6,000 from unrestricted gifts to the Illini Achievement Fund. T h e negotiations with Mr. Sandburg were conducted, on behalf of the University and the Foundation, by Dr. Bruce Weirick, Associate Professor of English, Emeritus, and a close personal friend of the distinguished poet and author, and Dr. Leslie W . Dunlap, Professor of Library Science and Associate Director of the Library. T h e Sandburg collection consists of manuscripts and first editions of Sandburg's own work, plus handsomely bound first editions of others; his correspondence with contemporaries; his collection Lincolniana; and volumes of his poetical works.
