SENATE BILL 4 9 1 (Reported to the Board of Trustees July 15, 1941, Minutes, page 38s) A N A C T making appropriations for the University of Illinois and providing for the expenditure thereof. Be it enacted by the People Assembly: of the State of Illinois, represented in the General

Section 1. There is hereby appropriated to the University of Illinois for the two years beginning July 1, 1941, and until the expiration of the first fiscal quarter after the adjournment of the next General Assembly, for the objects and purposes hereinafter set forth, the sum of twelve million, thirty-five thousand, six hundred fifty-three dollars ($12,035,653) payable first out of the University of Illinois Fund to the extent of the amount actually available in that fund at the time of the presentation to the Auditor of Public Accounts of duly itemized, issued, and certified vouchers, except that the Auditor may permit a reasonable working balance to accumulate therein, but otherwise, when the amount actually available in the University of Illinois Fund in addition to such working balance is insufficient to pay such vouchers, as to the remainder of this appropriation, the same shall be payable from the General Revenue F u n d : salaries and wages $ 9 359 603 office expenses, including printing and publications.. 186 200 travel 44 100 operation 1 225 000 repairs, equipment, and minor improvements including special assessments I 220 750 Total $12 035 653 T h e intent of this section is that substantially the entire amount available in the University of Illinois Fund during the period covered by the appropriation herein made shall first be applied to the payment of vouchers chargeable thereto and the part of this appropriation payable from the General Revenue Fund shall equal the aggregate of vouchers for such period in excess of the total sum available in the University of Illinois Fund. Sec. 2. There is hereby appropriated to the University of Illinois for the two years beginning July I, 1941, and until the expiration of the first fiscal quarter after the adjournment of the next General Assembly: (a) T h e sum of six hundred forty thousand dollars ($640,000) payable out of the General Revenue Fund, for the following objects and purposes: F o r partial fireproofing, ventilating, and reconditioning of Chemistry Building $150 000 For reconditioning and rearranging Morrow Hall and certain portions of the west unit of Old Agriculture Building to provide for Bacteriology, finishing certain portions of the fourth floor of New Agriculture Building for Dairy Husbandry and remodeling of quarters in Chemistry Building vacated by Bacteriology 90 000 For reconditioning and remodeling of Student Center, Arcade Building, Improvements in Dairy Plant, Mining Laboratory, Sewage Research Laboratory, College of Education small buildings, and other b u i l d i n g s . . . . 125 000 For paving replacement, new paving and walks including Green Street, Peabody Drive, F.ast Broadwalk and other walks and drives 90 000 F o r rewiring old buildings 60 000 F o r Band Building to replace present frame structure. .. . 125 000 Total $640 000 In the expending of the appropriations made in this section, the University shall not be limited to the amount specified for each item, but may transfer an For For For For For
