Grants for Research 1. T h e Nutrition Foundation, Inc., New York City, $12,000, in support of Professor William C. Rose's research studies on " T h e Amino Acid Requirements of M a n " during the academic year 1943-1944. 2. William S. Merrell Company, $7,500, for the support of research work in Chemistry (including the payment of fellowship stipends only, the Chemistry Department to furnish chemicals and other materials necessary for the research w o r k ) , for a period of three years beginning with the academic year 1943-1044. 3. T h e John and Mary R. Markle Foundation, New York City, $7,000, in support of the research work in renal hypertension by Dr. George E. Wakerlin of the College of Medicine during the academic years 1942-1943 and 1943-1944. 4. Allied Chemical & Dye Corporation, renewal of two fellowships in Organic Chemistry for the academic year 1943-1044, the stipend of each being $750. 5. T h e Nutrition Foundation, Inc., New York City, $2,400, in support of the research on " F a c t o r s which may alter calcium utilization by the adult man," by Professors F . R. Steggerda and H . H . Mitchell. 6. Sharp and Dohme, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, $1,500, in support of research work on phthalylsulfathiazole in the treatment of enteric diseases of animals, to be set up as a special fund, T r u s t Sharp and Dohme S36, the work to be carried on in the Agricultural Experiment Station by the Department of Animal Pathology and Hygiene. 7. Cerophyl Laboratories, Kansas City, Missouri, $1,200, for the continuation of research work being carried on by Dr. F. L. Wynd of the Department of Botany, for a period of twelve months from August I, 1943. 8. Monsanto Chemical Company, St. Louis, Missouri, $4,500, for a research fellowship on insecticides in the Agricultural Experiment Station. This is a research project sponsored jointly by the Experiment Station and the State Natural History Survey Division, and this grant is to cover the fellowship for one year beginning July 15, 1942 (the acceptance of this grant was authorized by the President of the University but has not been reported to the Board until the full amount of funds for this project was received). 9. Upjohn Company, $1,200, for the continuation of the post-doctorate research assistantship in Chemistry under the direction of Dr. H. E. Carter through the remainder of the academic year 1942-1943 or until September 1, 1943. T h e original grant of $2,200 was for only one year and the work was started on February 16, 1942, the assistant being appointed for the remainder of the academic year 1941-1942 and reappointed for the academic year 1942-1943. 10. Eastman Kodak Company, $1,000, for the continuation of a fellowship in Organic Chemistry for the academic year 1943-1944. 11. E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Wilmington, Delaware, $750, for the renewal of a postgraduate fellowship in Chemistry for the period June, 1943, to June, 1944. 12. Commercial Solvents Corporation, $720, for research by the Agricultural Experiment Station on water-soluble vitamins in rations for sows, for one year beginning July 1, 1043. 13. The Nutrition Foundation, Inc., New York City, $700, for research work on the nutritional qualities of the proteins of yeast, to be conducted by Dr. H. E. Carter of the Department of Chemistry during the academic year 1943-1944. 14. T h e Coca-Cola Company, Atlanta, Georgia, $680, for the continuation of research on the chemistry of citral under the direction of Dr. C. C. Price of the Department of Chemistry, for the period of two semesters ending February 1, 1944. 15. Illinois Crop Improvement Association, $500, for the purpose of helping to defray the expenses of hybrid corn performance tests to be conducted by the Department of Agronomy. 16. Mr. K. H . Kraft, Highland Park, Illinois, $500, in support of the Allergy Antigens Research work of Dr. B. Z. Rappaport of the College of Medicine. 17. Velsicol Corporation, Chicago, $500, in support of research on monomethyl-naphtho-quinone under the direction of Dr. Dwight Powell of the Department of Horticulture.
