BOARD OF T R U S T E E S COOK COUNTY EXPERIMENT STATION FUNDS

(7) A recommendation that $1,935.86 of unused receipts of the Cook County Experiment Station be re-appropriated to the Station for operation and maintenance for the current fiscal year.

On motion of Mr. Barrett, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Williams, Mr. Barrett; no, none; absent, Mrs. Hopkins.

SERVICES OF PROFESSOR D. R. MITCHELL FOR ILLINOIS EMERGENCY RELIEF COMMISSION (8) The Illinois Emergency Relief Commission has requested the services of Assistant Professor D. R. Mitchell of the Department of Mining Engineering in connection with its function of supplying relief coal throughout the State. This will involve his absence from the University for short periods from time to time from April 1 to June 1, 1934. I recommend that he be authorized to render this service and to be absent from his University duties a t such times as the work may require.

On motion of Mr. Barrett, this recommendation was adopted.

SICK LEAVE FOR MISS SYBIL WOODRUFF (9) A report that, on recommendation of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Miss Sybil Woodruff, Associate Professor of Foods in the Department of Home Economics, was given a month's sick leave with pay from February 28, 1934. Her work was temporarily taken care of by her colleagues with no expense to the University.

This report was received for record.

COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATION OF INSECTICIDES (10) On February 24, 1934 (Minutes, page 452) the Board authorized the approval of an agreement with the Grasselli-R & H Chemicals Department, E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, for research on insecticides. I t was reported that the Company would pay a total of $4,500 in monthly installments of $375 to cover the expenses. In the meantime, the Directors of the Company, in acting on the matter before receiving the contract approved by the Board of Trustees of the University, and on the basis of a later estimate that $3,950 would be sufficient, approved the grant for this amount. This is satisfactory to the Agricultural Experiment Station and to the Natural History Survey, and I recommend that this change be accepted.

On motion of Mr. Barrett, this change was accepted.

AUTOMOBILE LIABILITY INSURANCE (11) A report that property damage and public liability insurance on the University's automobile equipment, which expired April 5, 1934, has been placed with the General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation a t a cost of $1,023.69 for one year. This is in accordance with the policy of the Board to carry such insurance on the University's cars and trucks. Bids were secured from various companies. There was one lower bid of $928.50, but it was from the representative of a small company. The insurance was placed with the approval of the Chairman of the Finance Committee.

GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS A N D FELLOWSHIPS (12) The following appointments t o scholarships and fellowships in the Graduate School for 1934-35. Scholarships are recommended without stipends and carry exemption from incidental and laboratory fees. The holders pay the matriculation and graduation fees. The fellowships are known as "University Service Fellowships" and are awarded "on the condition that their holders shall beavailable for teaching, research,and other University services of such character and amount, not to exceed one-quarter time in
