UNIVERSITY FACULTY LOAN F U N D FOR STUDENTS (12) In November, 1931, the University Senate adopted a resolution suggesting that opportunity be offered the University faculty and staff to subscribe funds for unemployment relief in the state and local community. A committee of the Senate was appointed to solicit funds for this purpose, and in the Urbana Departments alone $25452.59 was collected, exclusive of $10,912.52 subscribed for local Community Chest purposes. There were four principal forms of relief provided: ( 1 ) local community relief and welfare w o r k ; ( 2 ) relief of other communities within the state; ( 3 ) student relief in the form of meal tickets (the closing of two local banks tied up for several months the funds of many students) ; ( 4 ) student relief in the form of loans to provide necessities. T h e last two needs developed after the fund was started, and subscribers gave their permission for such uses of a part of the fund. These loans aggregated $2,733.50. T h e Senate Committee wishes this part of the faculty's contribution to be used to establish a loan fund for the relief of
