of the discovery by Dr. Swann and Dr. Johnstone of a new improved method or a n e w modification of the Johnstone scheme of flue gas scrubbing; also for Dr. Heubaum's discovery of an electrolytic method for hydrolysis and partial purification of the levulose. O n motion of Dr. Noble, these recommendations were adopted. IMPROVED FORM OF DRIED BLOOD ALBUMEN M r . Barrett, for the Committee on Patents, also presented the following recommendation. Professor J. C. Blair, Head of the Department of Horticulture, sometime ago laid before the Faculty Committee on Patents a description of a discovery concerning an improved form of dried blood albumen related to the means of processing commercial dried blood albumen to facilitate i as a wetting and t spreading agent for use with various agricultural sprays, including such insecticides and fungicides as oil, oil emulsions, lime sulphur, bordeaux, arsenicals, and various nicotine, derris, and other alkaloid poisons. The application has to be made by a Mr. George Hockenyos who is not now in the employ of the University. The Committee on Patents recommends that application for a patent be filed, but only when and if Mr. Hockenyos has in writingfirstagreed to assign the patent, when and if obtained, to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. O n motion of M r . Barrett, this recommendation was adopted. RELEASE OF PATENT TO DR. GRAHAM M r . Barrett, for the Committee on Patents, also presented the following recommendation. Dr. Robert Graham some time ago perfected a method of releasing formaldehyde in hatcheries. While the discovery is important in itsfield,your Committee feels that the expenditure of time and money required for procuring a patent would not be warranted. It is therefore recommended by the Committee on Patents that the whole matter be released to Dr. Graham to do with as he pleases. O n motion of M r . Barrett, this recommendation w a s adopted. CANADIAN PATENTS ON JOHNSTONE DISCOVERIES M r . Barrett, for the Committee on Patents, presented also the following recommendation. The licensee of the Board of Trustees authorized to develop commercially the Henry F. Johnstone discoveries, Patent Applications No. 500684, for Removal of SOj from Flue Gases, and No. 582039, for Process for Removing SO* from Flue Gases, is anxious to obtain protection in foreign countries and more particularly in Canada. Your Committee on Patents recommends that the patent attorneys be instructed to proceed forthwith to procure patent protection for these discoveries in the Dominion of Canada. O n motion of M r . Barrett, this recommendation was adopted. INVESTMENT OF TRUST FUNDS M r . Trees, for the Finance Committee, presented a recommendation that approximately $2600 of available trust funds be invested in Houston Lighting and Power C o m p a n y First Fives of 1953, at 95. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this investment w a s authorized. FORECLOSURE OF MARTIN MORTGAGE M r . Trees, for the Finance Committee, reported also that the foreclosure proceedings against M r . Martin (page 445) have been instituted.
