Granger and Bollenbacher, architects on the building, recommend that the contract for the 400 pedestal arm chairs with book racks be awarded to the A. H. Andrews Company of Chicago on the basis of their bid of $2,192.00; and that the contract for the 598 tablet arm opera chairs (with plywood back and seat) and the 200 tablet arm ojjera chairs (upholstered) be awarded to the American Seating Company on the basis of their combined net bid of $3,991.60 (total of $4,171.00 less $179.40 for 7/16' j-plywood backs instead of 7-plywood). The Supervising Architect and the Purchasing Agent concur in this recommendation. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r s . H o p k i n s , these contracts w e r e a w a r d e d as recommended.

Tests were m a d e in our Physics Laboratory on the relative sound absorption in the Johns-Manville C o m p a n y Sanacoustic Tile on which the Acoustical Engineering Corporation is bidding, and upon the B B Celotex on which the Klein-Watson C o m p a n y is bidding. T h e figures given in the schedule are the bids submitted by thesefirms,but the decision is based on the bids revised in accordance with the coefficients as determined by our tests. T h e analysis shows that the Acoustical Engineering Corporation is the lowest bidder and, as its material has other advantages for the gymnasiums over that proposed by its competitors, the Supervising Architect recommends that the contract be awarded to the Acoustical Engineering Corporation for the several rooms scheduled at a total cost of $10,796.19. Certain minor adjustments in thesefigureswill have to be m a d e when the actual number of square feet of material to be installed can be determined. I concur in this recommendation.
