Stoolman of Champaign for general work on the Boiler House Addition was increased by changed orders from the Supervising Architect from $7,500 to $15,000 on November 4, and to $20,000 on December 5. This report w a s received for record. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE (11) A report of progress in the negotiations with the Department of Public Welfare. This report w a s received for record. RESOLUTION CONCERNING MEDICO-LEGAL INSTITUTE (12) The following communication from George H. Coleman, Secretary of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago: Hon. Harry Woodburn Chase, President, The University of Illinois Dear M r . President: At thefifteenthannual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago, held Wednesday, December 3, 1930, the following motion was unanimously adopted: "That the secretary of the Board of Governors transmit to the President of the University of Illinois a request that the establishment of a State Medico-Legal Institute under University auspices be considered by the Board of Trustees of the University. In the opinion of the Board of Governors, the present time seems propitious for the establishment of an Institute to co-ordinate medico-legal activities of the community and to form a national focus about which reform in medico-legal procedure might be initiated and centered." Dr. William Petersen, University of Illinois Medical School and a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Medicine, is the Chairman of our committee on medico-legal problems and has given this problem much thought. CANADIAN PATENT ON PREVENTION OF EMBRITTLEMENT IN S T E A M B O I L E R S (13) At the meeting of the Board of Trustees on November 14, 1930, I submitted a report from the Secretary of the Board that he has received from the University's patent attorneys, original Canadian Letters Patent No. 304,547, issued on October 7, 1930, to the Board of Trustees as assignee of S. W . Parr and F. B. Straub, covering a process for the prevention of embrittlement in steam boilers. I recommend that this report be printed in the Minutes as a matter of record. This report w a s received for record. APPROVAL OF REQUISITIONS FOR VARIOUS PURCHASES (14) A report of the approval of the following purchases, amounting to one thousand dollars or over: 1. One carload of book paper for the Annual Register at a price of $5.75 cwt. from the Dwight Brothers Paper Company, 626-636 South Clark Street, Chicago, at a total cost of approximately $2,100, 2. One carload of lumber for the Physical Plant Storeroom from T. A. Foley Lumber Company, Paris, Illinois, low bidder on this wood, at a cost of $1,525- This material is to be used in various building, repairing, and other jobs for which funds have been provided through appropriations to various departments.
