He recommends that inasmuch as the Kimball Company's low bid was obvi due to an error on the part of its estimating department, the Company be permitted to withdraw its bid without penalty and that the contract be awarded to the then lowest bidder, the Kewanee Manufacturing Company, on the basis of its bid of $107,015.80. I concur in this recommendation. O n motion of M r . Simpson, the revised bid of W . W . Kimball & Co., w a s rejected. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this contract1 w a s awarded to the K e wanee Manufacturing C o m p a n y , the lowest bidder, as recommended. During the discussion of this matter, President Barr asked M r s . Grigsby to take the chair for a time, while he spoke on the motion. O n motion of M r . Simpson, it w a s voted to retain the certified check presented b y the Kimball C o m p a n y , for liquidated damages. CONTRACT FOR X-RAY EQUIPMENT FOR MEDICAL AND D E N T A L L A B O R A T O R I E S BUILDING (8) The Supervising Architect submits the following schedule of bids, opened on December 10, on x-ray equipment for the Medical and Dental Laboratories building: On Shock-Proof Equipment (a) General Electric Corporation $4 781 70 (b) Standard X-Ray Company ( 1 0 % discount for cash 10 days from date of delivery) 4 741 00 (c) Aurora X-Ray Company2 ( 1 0 % discount for cash) 5 360 50 On Equipment Without the Shock-Proof Features (d) Standard X-Ray Company (10% discount for cash) 3 488 30 (e) The Kelley-Koett Manufacturing Company 3 386 00 (f) Standard X-Ray Company using a smallerfluoroscopicscreen ( 1 0 % discount for cash) 2 988 30 The Medical faculty and Professor G. L. Clark of the Department of Chemistry, who was consulted as an x-ray expert, join the Supervising Architect in recommending that the contract be awarded to the General Electric Corporation on the basis of their bid of $4,781.70. While this is not the lowest bid, the equipment offered by the General Electric Corporation is superior, for our purpose, to the equipment offered by the other bidders (as stated in the report of a committee of the Medical faculty attached hereto), and the equipment is so shielded within its own housing that lead lining of the walls and the use of lead glass screens is unnecessary. I concur in this recommendation. Action o n this matter w a s deferred until later in the day, because of the request of a representative of the Standard X - R a y C o m p a n y to b e heard o n the matter (see page 143). CANCELATION OF CONTRACT WITH CROP PROTECTION INSTITUTE (9) O n M a y 9, 1930 (Minutes, page 584), the Board authorized the execution of an agreement with the Crop Protection Institute of Durham, N e w Hampshire, for a cooperative investigation to determine the insecticidal and fungicidal effects of certain oil spray combinations. This agreement was to run from M a y 1,1930, to M a y 1, 1931, and the funds were to be provided by the Midwest Chemical Company.
