I recommend that the procedure outlined above be authorized. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this procedure w a s authorized as recommended. EMPLOYMENT OF MR. D. C. SPRINKLE CONTINUED (27) A recommendation that the employment of Mr. D. C. Sprinkle, Laborer in the Department of Horticulture, be continued beyond the retiring age, for one year beginning September 1, 1930. O n motion of M r . Fisher, this continuation w a s authorized. RETIREMENT OP MISS ISABEL. BEVIER (28) A recommendation from the Dean of the College of Agriculture that Miss Isabel Bevier, Professor of H o m e Economics, be retired beginning September 1, 1930, with the rank of Professor of H o m e Economics, Emeritus, and a stipend equivalent to that which a member of the staff of her length of service and receiving an equivalent salary would receive under the retiring allowance regulations. Professor Bevier was on the staff of the University from September 1, 1900, to September 1, 1921, when she was retired without pay at her own request. She returned to active service on February 1, 1928. She reached the retiring age last year but at her request, and on recommendation of all concerned, she was continued in active service for one year. Her retiring allowance under the rules would be $2,160 a year. I recommend approval. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this recommendation w a s adopted. APPOINTMENT OF MR. JOSE A. BALSE1RO (29) A recommendation that Mr. Jose A. Balseiro be appointed Assistant Professor of Romance Languages, for one year beginning September 1, 1930, at a cash compensation of thirty-seven hundred dollars ($3700). O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this appointment w a s authorized. REFRIGERATION UNIT FOR VIVARIUM (30) A recommendation from the Supervising Architect that the purchase of one No. 6 Andiffren Refrigerating Unit for the Vivarium at an expense of $5849 be authorized, to be paid for from Physical Plant Extension funds as provided at the meeting of April 9, 1930 (page 565). I concur. O n motion of M r . Fisher, this purchase w a s authorized. VACATION EXTENSION FOR DR. DORSEY AND DR. COLBY (31) A recommendation from Professor J. C. Blair, endorsed by Dean Mumford, that Dr. M . J. Dorsey and Dr. A. S. Colby of the Department of Horticulture, be granted one month extension of vacation, from August 5 to September ;, with pay, to enable them to attend the International Horticultural Congress in London. I concur. O n motion of D r . Noble, this extension w a s granted. AUTHORITY TO CONFER DEGREES (32) A request for authority to confer degrees at the coming Commencement as recommended by the University Senate. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this authority w a s granted. STOCKHOLDERS IN COMPANY TO PROMOTE BUSWELL PROCESS Mr. Armstrong, for the special committee on patents, presented the following l s of stockholders in the company to promote the Buswell it process, as submitted by Mr. Francis N. Bard.
