I929J UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS l6l GIFT OF THE FLEISCHMANN YEAST COMPANY (22) The Fleischmann Yeast Company of New York has o f r d the University a fee grant of $3,500, to be known as the Fleischmann Research Fund, for a study by the College of Medicine of the effect of yeast on the digestive tract. The Company agrees to the conditions and restrictions which, under our rules, govern such investigations. The first payment of $1,750 toward this fund has already been received. I recommend the acceptance of this offer. O n m o t i o n of M r s . E v a n s , this gift w a s accepted. GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (23) Under the authority given m e by the rules of the Board, I have accepted the following gifts to the University: 1. From Mrs. J. W . Hays of Urbana, widow of the former Superintendent of Schools of Urbana, a collection of books and other literature on the History of Education in Illinois, covering more than a half century. 2. From Professor C. F. Hottes, Head of the Department of Botany, a set of sixty-six lantern slides illustrating important subjects in German architecture and German life, presented to the Department of German. This report w a s received for record. SUNDRY APPOINTMENTS FOR 1929-30 (24) I have made the following appointments for next year in positions already existing and at the salaries already provided, or less, and ask confirmation of m y action: Dr. Wilfrid Wilson of Carlisle, England, formerly a student at the Universities of London, Cambridge, and Amsterdam, Instructor in Mathematics at $2,200 for one year. Oliver K. Bower, Instructor in Mathematics at $2,200. Paul Cramer, two-thirds time Assistant in Mathematics at $1,000. Carl Walter Strom, two-thirds time Assistant in Mathematics at $1,000. John H . Butchart, two-thirds time Assistant in Mathematics at $935. Charles C. Hower of Conway, Arkansas, one-half time Assistant in Classics at $700. Curtis Lakeman Newcombe, of Morgantown, West Virginia, one-half time Assistant in Zoology at $600. Margery Washburn, Portland, Oregon, one-half time Assistant in Zoology at $600.
