19*5] U N I V E R S I T Y O F ILLINOIS 469 The Buildings and Grounds Committee met at the University November 6th to consider the matter of building concrete bleachers on Illinois Field, this matter having been referred to the Committee at the October meeting of the Board. Members present were Mrs. Ickes, Mrs. Grigsby and M r . Armstrong. President Kinley, Professor White, Director Huff, Judge Harker, and M r . This matter was carefully considered and this Committee wishes to go on record as not in favor of opening a street through Illinois Field. It was stated that the approximate life of wood bleachers is seventeen years and that thefirstcost would be about one-third that of concrete. In consideration of this and our inability to foresee the development of the University so far in advance and also the possibility that before the expiration of that time it m a y be found desirable to locate all physical activities near the new Gymnasium and Stadium, we recommend that wood bleachers be constructed.
