RETIRING A L L O W A N C E S (27) A statement concerning the time at which members of the staff may be retired under the plan for retiring allowances and death benefits adopted December 13, 1924. N o action w a s t a k e n in this matter. MEMORIAL T O T H E H O U S E O F REPRESENTATIVES M r . Armstrong presented the following memorial: W e , the Trustees of the University of Illinois, elected by the people of the State and entrusted with the care and administration of the University, have heard with astonishment the proposal of the House Appropriations Committee to cut from the University appropriation bill the sum of #1,425,000. T h e University appropriation bill passed the Senate more than a month ago without a dissenting vote. Its passage was also recommended by the subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committe. If the proposed cuts in the appropriation bill are m a d e it will seriously hamper the work of the University. T o omit the addition to the Armory building, on the plea that it is an Armory, is an evasion of the facts, for, as has been fully explained, the purpose of the Board of Trustees in asking for the addition to the Armory building is to provide needed room for class instruction, supply rooms, consulting offices, and equipment rooms. If this space is not provided it means that class rooms in other buildings will continue to be overcrowded to the detriment of proper instruction.
