I92S] UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS 221 z. The second plan would be to set a price on the separate lots on Armory Avenue, then to sell the houses and lots at private sale. 3. T o sell all the houses at auction, giving the purchasers of the houses the privilege of buying lots south of Armory Avenue at figures established by us. I recommend the adoption of plan No. I and that authority be given the Supervising Architect to advertise during the coming month so that bids may be opened not later than the M a y meeting of the Board of Trustees. O n motion of D r . N o b l e , this r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s adopted, and plan N o . 1 w a s approved. CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT (25) I have received the following letter on this matter from the Supervising Architect: March 30, 192s President David Kinley, 35$ Administration Building M y Dear President Kinley: I a m enclosing half a dozen copies of a plan dated March 26, 1925, entitled "Development of the Campus of the University of Illinois." The purpose of this presentation is: First, to show the location of the buildings for which appropriations are now being asked. The units of the Library and Gymnasium under construction are double cross-hatched, and the proposed additions thereto are single cross-hatched. The proposed site for the Architectural building is shown just west of the Commerce building. Secondly, to show the areas which I have suggested we sell as sites for the houses which are to be moved from College Place; and Third, to show the position of the south drive between the new Parade Ground and the Stadium site. This road is now graded from Fourth Street west to the board walk and the trees are planted on it clear through to First Street. I have not graded it clear through because I don't want it open as a public driveway without your approval. I believe that Florida Avenue between Fourth and First Streets will be unnecessary as a thorofare if we open this proposed south drive and i will be t an advantage to us in controlling traffic around the Stadium to have that as a private drive-way which w e can open only on the occasion of big games. As w e own the land on both sides, I believe that it will be perfectly possible for us to secure the consent of the highway commissioner to have it closed, providing we will open up the new south drive. I would like authority to negotiate towards this end. Yours truly, James M. White Supervising Architect O n recommendation of President Kinley, and on motion of Mrs. Grigsby, the following action was taken: I. The new architecture building was located as shown in the plan. 2. The location of the road marked "South Drive" was approved. 3. The Supervising Architect was authorized to arrange for the closing of Florida Avenue between Fourth and First streets. At this point, Mr. Barr withdrew. BROWN-KN1PP PATENTS (26) A report of the negotiations for the sale of the Brown-Knipp-Kunz patents. Professor W h i t e m a d e a statement concerning this matter. T h e report w a s received for record. A t this point, M r s . B u s e y withdrew.
