He noted that he attempted to protect education in general and higher education in particular and for that reason he had elected not to diminish the current budget for higher education. He also commented on the committee he had appointed to review the system of governance for higher education in the State. (President Ikenberry referred to this same committee in his remarks earlier.) The governor noted that he hoped to receive a report from this group in early June 1992. Governor Edgar also referred to the matter that brought him to the campus that day which was the release of $5.23 million for capital projects at the Chicago campus ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD President Lamont called attention to the schedule of meetings for the next three months: May 14, Urbana-Champaign; June 11, Chicago; July 9, Urbana-Champaign.
