action and evidence of accomplishment in leading productive pluralistic academic communities. A capacity to understand and articulate the values and needs of the faculty and students. In summary, the chancellor will exhibit those personal traits essential to leadership in a major academic institution. Dr. Simpson stressed that the committee considered administrative experience in an academic setting, comparable to the University of Illinois at Chicago, to be very important. T h e trustees then interviewed the following three candidates, reco m m e n d e d by the search committee, for the position of chancellor of the Chicago campus: D R .
