4116 BOARD OF TRUSTEES LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PRESIDENT JAMES [June 10, (19) Resignation of the office of President of the University. On motion of Mr. Abbott, the Executive Committee declined to accept this resignation, and leave of absence with full pay was granted to President James, beginning June 21, 1919, and continuing until the opening of the University in September 1920. VICE-PRESIDENT KINLEY MADE ACTING PRESIDENT On motion of Mr. Abbott, Vice-President David Kinley was requested to assume the duties of Acting President beginning June 21, 1919, with compensation at the rate of ten thousand dollars a year. Dr. Kinley, being called to the room, accepted this assignment of duties. AUTHORITY T O CONFER DEGREES On motion of Mr. Abbott, the action of the President of the Board authorizing the issuing of diplomas to the graduates of the departments in Chicago, on June 14, 1919, was approved, and the President of the University was also authorized to confer degrees on such candidates as may be qualified and recommended by the University Senate, on June 23, 1919, and at the end of the Summer Session.
