1917] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS 533 notary public, and has been recorded in the office of the recorder of deeds of Champaign County, Illinois, in volume 165 of the deed records of said county, on page 265; N O W , T H E R E F O R E , be it hereby resolved that the execution of said deed, in the name of this Board of Trustees, in the manner aforesaid be and the same is hereby ratified and adopted as the act and deed of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. This memorandum was adopted by a unanimous vote. PENSION FOR MRS. CHARLES H. JOHNSTON (9) A statement that Dr. Charles Hughes Johnston, Professor of Education and acting head of the School of Education, was killed on Tuesday, September 4, 1917, while on his way home in his automobile from a visit to his parents in North Carolina. Death resulted from a collision at the edge of the village of Elk Ridge, near Baltimore, Maryland. I should like to have instructions from the Trustees as to payments to his widow. P r o fessor Johnston has been professor in the University since 1913. On motion of Mr. Trimble, the President of the University was requested to obtain the opinion of the University Counsel as to the powers of the Board in the premises. The Board adjourned.
