T h e s e reports were referred to t h e F i n a n c e C o m m i t t e e . O n motion of Mr. M c L e a n , t h e P r e s i d e n t of t h e University, a n d t h e B u s i n e s s M a n a g e r were i n s t r u c t e d to report at t h e next m e e t i n g of t h e B o a r d t h e n a m e of some suitable person to be employed as an attorney of t h e Board, and also t h e t e r m s u p o n which he could be so employed. T h e Board t h e n adjourned to meet at 2 o'clock p. m.

U p o n r e c o m m e n d a t i o n of P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r $150 was a p p r o p r i a t e d for r u n n i n g expenses of t h e M e c h a n i c a l E n g i n e e r i n g laboratory for the q u a r t e r e n d i n g March 31, 1897; also $120 for the p u r c h a s e of a volume fan a n d e n g i n e c o m b i n e d for use in e x p e r i m e n t s with different coals. T h e B u s i n e s s Manager, Professor S. W . S h a t t u c k , p r e s e n t e d his report, which was referred to t h e F i n a n c e Committee.

SIR:—I have the honor to hand you herewith the following financial statements, and report for the three months ending September 30, 1896: Paper A is a statement of the general current appropriations September 30, 1896. Paper B is that of the State appropriations. Paper C is that of the U. S. fund. Paper D is that of the Laboratory of Natural History. Paper E is that of the Agricultural Experiment Station. Paper F is that of the School of Pharmacy. Paper G is an estimate of receipts and expenses for the nine months ending June 30, 1897. Paper H is a list of appropriations the Board is requested to make for the three months ending March 31, 1897. Paper J is a report of my receipts for the three months, ending September 30, 1896. Paper K is a list of general University vouchers presented for audit, being 1 to 500, inclusive. Paper X is a list of Laboratory of Natural History vouchers presented for audit, being 1 to 96, inclusive. Paper M is a list of Agricultural Experiment Station vouchers presented for audit, being 1 to 77, inclusive. Paper N is a-list of School of Pharmacy vouchers presented for audit, being 1 to 38, inclusive. Paper 0 is a bill of expenses which the Treasurer, C. W. Spalding, requests to be paid.
