The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met, pursuant i o adjournment, at 2 o'clock p. m., May 25, 1896, in the University parlor, Urbana. The members present were Messrs. Armstrong, Bullard, Graham, Morrison, and Raymond; absent, Governor Altgeld and Messrs. Inglis, McLean, Judy, and Morgan, and Dr. Smith and Mrs. Flower. A little later Mr. Morgan came in. The President announced as the first business of the meeting the opening of the bids which had been received by the Secretary for the construction of the Library building. The bids were opened in the presence of the bidders and were as follows, for construction of the building according to plans and specifications, using stone as named:

BIDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LIBRARY BUILDING. Chas.. A. Moses, 159 LaSalle St., Chicago— 1. Buff Bedford for trimmings and wall. 2. Portage trimmings, Kettle River wall 3. Portage trimmings, cream buff sandstone wall .. 4. Cream buff trimmings, buff Bedford wall 5. Portage trimmings and wall . 6. Portage for basement to and including main water table, front entrance, mosaic frieze, steps and buttress; Bedford trimmings for tower; Kettle River for rest of building 7. Kettle River basement and arches to water table and steps, buff Bedford. 8. Kettle River trimmings and wall If Golding system of fire-proofing is used throughout entire building, deduct from each proposal the sum of $5,300.00.
