FROM OFFICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Immediate Release Mailed IO/29/69 URBANA, 111.—A memorial which members of the University of Illinois classes of 1918 and 1919 are erecting to honor their fellows killed in World War I will be dedicated Saturday morning of Homecoming, Nov. 1. The two classes, mingled by interruptions in study caused by the war, raised funds to create a memorial plaza in the south court of Lincoln Hall, just outside the theater there. President David D. Henry and Chancellor J.W. Peltason will participate in the dedication, set for 9:30 a.m., and class leaders to take part include: Alexander T. Bush of Manhattan, 111., and Clifton E. Barnes of Indianapolis, 1918 and 1919 fund chairmen, respectively; Miss Tracy Samuels of New York City, 1918 class secretary, and Mrs. Nell Flatt Goodman of San Antonio, Tex., 1919 secretary. George Halas of Chicago, 1918 cochairman with Bush, will be unable to attend. Central feature in the memorial is an ornamental fountain backed by a 4- by 10-foot stone memorial, as yet unfinished, designed and constructed by Donald J. Molnar of the campus planning office. An abstract, the sculpture in relief depicts the disruption of the classes by calls to military service. A bronze plaque at the east end of the court will bear the legend of the memorial. -js- 2/ps
