Wesley Foundation at the University
The Wesley Foundation once owned a much larger portion of the land "in the block bounded by Green Street, Goodwin Avenue, Illinois Street, and Mathews Avenue", which the University needed to continue its expansive growth in that area. By 1953 the University was in negotiations with the Foundation to purchase part of its land in that area, with the understanding that "any buildings [the University] constructs in [the] area will be 75 feet south of the east-west center line of said block".
