Bv the middle of the nineteenth centur the methods to be used in training a band of chemists were being rapidly developed And it came to be more and more clearly recognized that the training is not merely to give to the student a knowledge of chemical facts—it must give to him the power to think for himself and to strike out into new and untried paths.
