A t t e n t i o n may he ( ailed to the facility , for the study of g o v e r n m e n t a l p r o b l e m s included in the collection of nearly a million volumes and 250,000 p a m p h l e t ! in the University Library. In addition to general and special works and a b o u t 8,000 periodicals, the Library is one of the depositories for official d o c u m e n t s issued by the n u m e r o u s agencies of t h e United States government. It has also a large collection of official publications of foreign g o v e r n m e n t s and of A m e r i c a n state and local g o v e r n m e n t s . T h e L a w Library, of 50,000 volumes, includes constitutions, statutes, and judicial decisions of the national and state g o v e r n m e n t s , as well as of Great Britain and t h e British d o m i n i o n s . T h e r e is a special collection of a b o u t 32,000 volumes of municipal and c o u n t y charters, ordinances, and r e p o r t s from some 3,000 American and 300 foreign municipalities; also files of a b o u t fifty periodicals on municipal government and publications of n u m e r o u s civic associations. T h e University m a i n t a i n s a n u m b e r of m u s e u m s and collections of objects of artistic, historic, and scientific value, illustrative of t h e various fields of study. These include m u s e u m s of Classical and Oriental Art and Archeology, E u r o p e a n C u l t u r e , and N a t u r a l History; in addition t h e r e are collections in agriculture, art botany, engineering, entomology, geology, and zoology. E x t e n s i v e laboratories are also maintained in connection with t h e scientific courses in agriculture, botany, ceramics, chemistry, engineering, entomology, physics and zoology, in U r b a n a ; and in dentistry, medicine, a n d p h a r m a c y , in Chicago. T h e College of Medicine in Chicago has a cooperative a g r e e m e n t with the Illinois State D e p a r t m e n t of Public W e l f a r e for the use of its research and educational hospitals and laboratories, and also with o t h e r a u t h o r i t i e s in connection with Cook C o u n t y Hospital and o t h e r hospitals in Chicago. Intensive research in p r o b l e m s of public interest and importance is carried on by the A g r i c u l t u r a l Experi

ment Station, the Engineering Experiment Station,

the B u r e a u of Business Research, and the Bureau o E d u c a t i o n a l Research, as well as by o t h e r depart m e n t s of t h e University, s o m e t i m e s in cooperation with g o v e r n m e n t a l agencies. T h r e e Illinois scientifi agencies the State Natural History Survey, the State W a t e r Survey, and the State Geological Survey are located on the campus at U r b a n a And coopei ate with related divisions and d e p a r t m e n t s of tlv University.
