These courses cover s w i m m i n g , basketball, baseball, track and field, football, handball, tennis, golf, tap dancing. mo< e m dancing, tumbling s t u n t s , and m a n y o t h e r s of a similar nature. The particular functions of these courses is to engender the knowledges, skills, dispositions, and cond tiona essential to performing the activities covered. These abilities serve as a basis for t e a c h i n g , coaching, and directing pro mis in tlu same. 5. Professional training t h e o r y courses. T h i s group of courses includes courses in hygiene, training and first aid. the school p r o g r a m in health, a n d prescribed sports, which serve to p r e p a r e the s t u d e n t for t e a c h i n g hygiene, and handling athletic t e a m s . It also includes courses dealing w i t h the o r g a n i z a t i o n a n d c o n d u c t of physical educatic curricula, the m a n a g e m e n t and o p e r a t i o n of extracurricular p r o g r a m s in s p o r t s , and the o r g a n i z a t i o n and conduct of p r o g r a m s in recreation. In all of the professional t r a i n i n g courses the attempt is made to b r o a d e n and deepen the s t u d e n t s ' appreciation and u n d e r s t a n d i n g of t h e place of s p o r t s and similar recreational activities in the c u r r e n t social order. T h e University c o n d u c t s extensive p r o g r a m s in intercollegiate athletics, i n t r a m u r a l s p o r t s , and general recreation which provide s t u d e n t s majoring in this field with excellent laboratory, study, a n d e x p e r i m e n t a l materials.
