Page 22 STUDENT HELP of many kinds is offered. The University hap at UrbanaChampaign probably more full-time students—away from home and in the University environment 2k hours a day~~than any other institution. It recognizes responsibility for favorable conditions and help in all problems. The Health Service, Student Counselling Bureau, deans of various colleges and schools, church foundations (page 23), and the dean of students and his staff all are ready to help students at any time. Illinois was the first institution to have a full-time dean of men to concern himself with student well being outside the classroom. Today his post is that of the Dean of Students under whom are the Dean of Men, Dean of Women, Student Employment Bureau (page 23), Division of Housing, and various boards of control for extra-curricular activities. Dean of Students is Fred H. Turner; Dean of Men, Edward E. Stafford, Dean of Women, Miss Miriam A. Shelden.

STUDENT COUNSELLING BUREAU is available to both students and those persons considering college. It offers free scientific vocational and educational aptitude tests and counselling service. It helps individuals to select careers and courses to fit their abilities and in which they are most likely to succeed, helps with study problems, and with personal problems. Director is William M. Gilbert.

UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICE treats students for ambulatory conditions and refers those needing more extensive care to physicians, gives emergency treatment, gives physical examinations to all new students and staff members, and operates McKinley Hospital of 175 beds. All students have hospital and medical insurance as part of required fees. In 1957-58* 58,46l calls were made to the Health Center at Urbana-Champaign. Similar services are at the professional and undergraduate division campuses in Chicago. Director is Dr. Orville S. Walters.

HOUSING is provided both by the University and privately. The Housing Division is in charge of all University-owned and operated facilities and supervises all other student housing. At Urb ana ^Champaign private homes, private residence halls, and apartments house 8,691 single and married students, both undergraduate and graduate, 581 live with parents or relatives, 532 commute from neighboring communitiesj the 57 undergraduate and 2 graduate fraternities house 2,521 men, the 28 sororities 1>191 women. In its dormitories the University accommodates 2,698 men and 1,687 women. Temporary accommodations house 582 married student families. Permanent buildings have 201 apartments for married students and staff. The University owns a number of homes in the community which are leased temporarily to new staff members until they find other homes in the community. On the Chicago Professional Campus residence halls house Ul2 students, and staff apartments provide1^5 units. At the Chicago Undergraduate Division no University housing is provided. Housing airector is Vernon L. Kretschmer.

MORE SOCIAL FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES are active at the UrbanaChampaign campus than at any other in the world. There are 57 undergraduate fraternities with 2,900 members and 27 sororities with 1,500.
