at the State University of N e w York — B i n g h a m t o n , as V i c e Chancellor for A c a d e m i c Affairs, beginning S e p t e m b e r 1, 1976, on a t w e l v e - m o n t h service basis, at an annual salary of $ 4 6 , 0 0 0 . D r . Cantor will also have the rank of Professor of History on indefinite tenure. D r . Cantor's a p p o i n t m e n t is supported by a faculty-student committee 1 app o i n t e d b y the Chancellor to advise his office o n this a p p o i n t m e n t . D r . Cantor succeeds Arnold G r o b m a n w h o resigned o n August 3 1 , 1974. George M a g n e r has been acting V i c e Chancellor for A c a d e m i c Affairs since S e p tember 1, 1974. T h e V i c e President for A c a d e m i c Affairs and the V i c e President for A d ministration concur i n this r e c o m m e n d a t i o n . I r e c o m m e n d approval.

On motion of Mr. Volgman, this appointment was approved. ( I n approving this recommendation, the Trustees noted with appreciation the services of Acting Vice Chancellor George Magner and directed the Secretary to express their thanks to him for his service in this capacity and in other important ways. Schmidt, presently serving as Commissioner of the U n i t e d States F o o d and D r u g Administration (on leave of absence from the University of Illin o i s ) , as V i c e C h a n c e l l o r for H e a l t h Services, b e g i n n i n g on or before D e c e m b e r 1, 1976, o n a twelve-month service basis, at a n annual salary of $ 5 2 , 5 0 0 . Dr. S c h m i d t will succeed D r . H . M a r t i n Engle w h o resigned effective M a r c h 1, 1976. D r . D o n a l d J. Caseley has served as Interim V i c e Chancellor for H e a l t h Services in addition to his present a p p o i n t m e n t as V i c e Chancellor. T h e nomination is m a d e w i t h the advice of the vice chancellors a n d the deans of the colleges at the M e d i c a l Center and after consultation w i t h members of the Hospital Conference Committee. 2 T h e V i c e President for A c a d e m i c Affairs and the V i c e President for Administration concur.
