Director of the Mini Union, Urbana

(5) The Chancellor at Urbana-Champaign has recommended the appointment of Robert K. Todd, presently Director of the Russell House University Union at the University of South Carolina, as Director of the Illini Union on the Urbana campus effective August 1, 1976, on a twelve-month service basis, at an annual salary of $24,000. Mr. Todd will succeed Anton B. Courier who has been Acting Director of the Illini Union since Earl F. Finder was named Associate Director of Auxiliary Services and Director of Telecommunications on August 21, 1975. (Mr. Finder retired on March 1, 1976.) The nomination of Mr. Todd was made on the recommendation of a search committee1 and after consultation with die Illini Union Board. The Vice President for Administration concurs. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Summers, this appointment was approved.

Special Awards for Undergraduate Instruction

(6) In 1975 the Board of Trustees approved a total of seventeen projects, involving nineteen faculty members, for support during the summer of 1975 under the Urbana-Champaign program of Undergraduate Instructional Awards and the Chicago Circle program of Curriculum Development Awards. These awards generally provided a full-time salary for two months to the recipients for work on projects designed to improve the quality of undergraduate instruction. Following the completion of the projects last summer, appropriate campus groups were asked to select the most meritorious projects for nomination for special awards, funded by a grant from the AMOCO Foundation, for outstanding teaching by undergraduate faculty. The Chancellor at Chicago Circle appointed a special committee to review the reports submitted by the grantees. The Urbana-Champaign projects were reviewed and judged by the members of the Council on Program Evaluation. The selections of the two bodies are as follows (in one instance, a project award is to be divided between the two faculty members who participated in the project): BRIAN F. Learning

After reviewing the reports and recommendations, the Vice President for Academic Affairs has recommended that special awards of $1,000 be made for each of the foregoing projects. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Howard, these recommendations were approved.
