A copy of the report is filed with the Secretary. RECOGNITION, PROFESSOR ROBERT W. JOHANNSEN At Chancellor Peltason's request, President Hughes recognized Professor Robert W . Johannsen who was appointed to the J. G. Randall Distinguished Professorship in History at the last meeting of the Board of Trustees and who was present. T h e Chancellor reviewed the selection procedures involved in making the appointment and the University's satisfaction in having within its own history faculty a scholar of distinction to merit appointment as the first individual to hold this chair. Professor Johannsen spoke briefly, expressing his appreciation for the appointment and of his respect for the work of Professor Randall ( w h o served as Professor of History at the University of Illinois from 1920 to 1948) and his hope to serve in the capacity with distinction. ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM T H E PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD F U T U R E MEETINGS President Hughes called attention to the schedule of regular meetings for the next three months: November 2 1 , Medical Center; December 19, Allerton House; J a n u a r y 16, Chicago Circle. President Hughes also announced that an executive session had been requested and would be convened after a brief recess to consider reports on pending litigation.
