SENATE. RESOLUTION

OP THE

LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OP CALIFORNIA,

IK FAVOR OF

A donation of land to each of the States and Territories of the Union for the endowment and maintenance of colleges for instruction in such branches of education as pertain to agriculture, the mechanic arts, and natural history. MAY 15,1858.—Referred to the Committee on Public Lands and ordered to be printed.

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO A COLLEGE.

Whereas the Hon. Justin S. Morril, of Vermont, has introduced into the House of Representatives of the United States a bill for the endowment and maintenance of a college in each State and Territory, by donating to each State and Territory a portion of the public lands; which college to be dedicated and devoted to instructions in such branches of education as pertain to agriculture, mechanical arts, and natural history; therefore— Be it resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That our senators be instructed, and our representatives in Congress requested, to use all honorable exertion necessary to the passing of the aforementioned bill into a law. And be it further resolved, That his excellency the governor be requested to forward to our senators and representatives each a copy of these resolutions. H WM. E.
