Later she writes that she is settled in her own home, with a house boy named Teh Pao to look after her comfort. She has joined the International Club in Hankow, and at a banquet at the Club she met over sixty women representing nine nationalities. The feast itself consisted of about a dozen courses; there was bird's nest soup, shark fin, pigeon eggs poached in deep oil, roast pigeon, lamb stew with Chinese cabbage, and much else. It was all delicious, there was a tiny cup of Chinese wine at each plate, which they drank to various guests. After the feast they broke up, as it is the custom to do the visiting before and during the meal. Lucy Lewis, B.L.S. '06, Director of the libraries of the State of Oregon, and Librarian of the Agricultural College at Corvallis, was elected to Phi Kappa Phi in May, 1934, and not Phi Beta Kappa, as stated in the last Letter. Sara Abbott, 1906-07, has accepted a temporary position in the Home Loan Bank Board, Washington, D. C. Grace Emma Herrick, B.L.S. '11, Assistant Professor of Library Science, School of Library Science, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, since 1929, died very suddenly Monday, February 4, 1935, from pneumonia at Norman, Oklahoma, Miss Herrick graduated from Carleton ollege with the B.A. degree in 1895. She was a teacher in Huguenot eminary, Greytown, Natal, South Africa, 1896-1903; Librarian of the Astern College for Women from 1911-27; Cataloger, Public Library, kmulgee, Oklahoma, 1927-28; Cataloger, Christian University Library, )rt Worth, Texas, 1928-29. Mr. J. L. Rader, Librarian of University of Oklahoma, Norman, wrote: "Miss Herrick was a hard and faithful worker, a good teacher, and a loyal supporter of our school. I have never known anyone so faithful in her work. She became ill with influenza a week ago last Wednesday. As late as Saturday afternoon her physician told me that she was progressing satisfactorily. Sunday she was stricken with pneumonia, and she was rushed to the University Infirmary where she died just before noon, Monday, February 4th." Elsie Louise Baechtold, B.L.S. '16, sends her address as 2134 South Logan Street, Denver, Colorado. In the report of the Denver District meeting in the last News Letter a misplaced comma gave the impression that she was connected with the Denver High School. Such is not the case. K. Dorothy Ferguson, 1914-16, was on leave of absence from her position as Librarian of the Bank of America in San Francisco and spent the spring and summer of 1934 in New York on the staff of the Special Libraries Association working with various Trade Associations in establishing libraries for these associations. She returned to San Francisco in December making the trip via the Panama Canal. Katherine Hitt Beatty, 1916-17, is now living at 219 West Lincoln Highway, De Kalb, Illinois. Mrs. Beatty was formerly Reference Assistant of the Ryerson Library, Art Institute, Chicago.
